Valley Cartage is proud to announce it has joined the Smartway® program. Launched in 2004, SmartWay is a United States Environmental Protection Agency program that works to reduce transportation-related emissions by creating incentives for industry to improve supply chain fuel efficiency. Smartway is a joint government-industry partnership in which freight carriers and shippers commit to benchmark operations, track fuel consumption and improve performance annually.
“We’re proud to be part of the program” noted Wayne Grabowski, Valley Cartage’s Director of Safety, “adding our fleet to SmartWay underscores our commitment to reduce carbon emissions and be good corporate citizens.” Bruce Anderson, the Director of Operations, also commented “SmartWay is yet another tool we can use to make sure we are operating as efficiently as possible. We have the right systems in place, our drivers are well trained and every one of them has worked hard to reduce their fuel consumption.”
Partners rely upon SmartWay tools and approaches to track and reduce emissions and fuel use from goods movement. The SmartWay program contributes to the savings of 1.5 billion gallons of fuel, $3.6 billion in fuel costs, 14.7 MMT of carbon dioxide (CO2), 215,000 tons of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and 8,000 tons of particulate matter. The Partnership currently has over 3000 Partners.
