Although we have worked very hard to reduce our operating costs and have done our utmost to hold the line on price increases, the overall cost of labor, maintenance, insurance and technology enhancements have continued to rise. New driver regulations and an ever-dwindling supply of qualified professional drivers have greatly increased our recruitment, training and retention expenses. The high cost of fuel, while offset to a certain degree by fuel surcharges, remains an unpredictable and ever increasing expense. Therefore, to continue to provide our high level of quality service in today’s economic environment, we must increase all rates, including accessorials, minimum charges and class, commodity and pallet rates, by 5.9 percent. The effective date of this general rate increase will be April 2, 2012.
